Eight Legal offers two hours per month of pro bono work to people who otherwise cannot afford legal advice.
James comes from an academic legal background, he decided to become a teacher having completed his Master’s in Human Rights law at the University of Leicester Graduate School of Law. He wrote and ran the International Human Rights law course at Oxford Brookes University rather than be a solicitor or barrister he was involved in writing and teaching. However, he has solicitors and occasional barristers on his employment law update courses.
He has held visiting lectureships at the University of Nice and as a guest speaker in law and ethics at Cambridge University Judge Business School.
Formerly, James was a legal adviser in Housing law to two MPs and was based in the House of Commons.
James reaffirmed his Catholic beliefs in 2023 and is committed to aligning the principles of Universal Human Rights and anti-discrimination law with Catholic values (and values of all faiths) by using law as a tool for justice and freedom from discrimination.
James offers four hours of his time every month pro bono for people who have experienced discrimination but do not have the means to pay for legal advice.
Areas of special interest include neurodiversity, and disability discrimination with specialist input from Solicitor and Barrister Luke Menzies LLM and animal welfare, with specialist input from Dr Kay Hamblin, his wife, fellow director and veterinary surgeon.
